MINDVIEW (B) februari 1998

Chinawhite is a 5-piece Dutch band around frontman Peter Cox(?). After releasing 3 demotapes in ’90, ’92 and ’94, and supporting among other’s Uriah Heep and The Golden Earring, they throw their debut on mini-cd on the market. Opener Rock and Water bears the qualities of this band: symphonic and progressive elements, clearly rooted in melodic rock. It sounds quite convincing, but the drums sound rather hollow, especially in the song The Revolution by Night. In the driving Big Money the keyboard annoy a bit, thus making the song fast monotonous. In de 5th and last, moody song The Lurker, a climax is built beautifully. As a debut for sure a strong start, but I am afraid the overall sound and the sometimes sudden changes need more finishing.
