CHINAWHITE from the Netherlands have promised to release their new longplayer in late 2000 and here it is … entitled "Breathe fire". CHINAWHITE’s music can be described as melodic hardrock with progrock influences somewhere beteween bands like TOTO, FOREIGNER, MARILLION and heavyrock-bands. The album comes with very good sound, but unfortunately not all of the songs are convincing as the vocal lines are missing some hooks. Songs with hooks are "Foolin", "My one and only", the monster groove instrumental "Infatuation" and the 70ies-style "Losers in the end" which even tends into the progmetal genre. CHINAWHITE’s 1999 EP did set too high expectations for me … expectations that could not be fulfilled and so this album is endangered to drown in the flood of similar melodic rock / AOR-prog releases. 5 points
